Reykjavik wins Vrc-Crv Winter Championship Listed $160,000 at Flemington, 1600m.
Reykjavik did well in winning well here at his third start after racing previously in West Australia. He settled in ninth place on the rails from his good barrier (2) before improving behind runners on straightening.
Linda Meech steered him through a gap at the 200m and he took the lead nearing the 100m and then went on to score decisively. Romancer raced in sixth place before moving up well on turning for home.
He took a narrow lead approaching the 200m and then battled on well for second. Holbien raced outside the leader (Hellova Street) before getting to the front at the 400m. He then battled on quite well to take the minor placing.
Of the others Royal Order made up ground from tenth at the home turn to finish (4.3 lengths) fourth while the favourite Waging War raced in second last place in the 14-horse field and steadily made ground for (5.1 lengths) seventh without threatening.
