Ladbrokes Tasmanian Guineas, Listed : Launceston - 4th January 2020

3 minute read

Still A Star wins Ladbrokes Tasmanian Guineas, Listed, $100,000 at Launceston, 1600m.

The Bill Ryan-trained filly Still A Star took her record to four wins (5 placings) from nine starts in taking out this Listed race in good style, her first at stakes level. She made an early move and settled outside the leader (Argyle Beach) who was travelling at a steady tempo.

She put pressure on that runner nearing the home turn, got the upper hand at the 100m and then went on to win well.

Argyle Beach went to the front and fought gamely all the way for a good second while Mywordis held on for third after having a nice trip in fourth place.

The favourite Mystical Pursuit settled in second last place in the seven-runner field, made a move (wide out) due to the moderate pace at the 700m. But was under riding on straightening and then battled on for fourth, which was only the second time in her eight-start career that she has missed a placing.
