Mrs Mac’s-La Trice Classic, Group 3 : Ascot - 4th January 2020

3 minute read

Perfect Jewel wins Mrs Mac’s-La Trice Classic, Group 3, $150,000 at Ascot, 1800m.

It has been more than two years since Perfect Jewel saluted the judge but she returned in style to claim win five and her third stakes with a resounding win here. She was up with the pace early then dropped back to settle a distant fifth (rails), where she remained down the back straight and on to the riverside at 800m.

At the 400m jockey William Pike pushed out but in the straight waited until the 200m, gave the reins a solid shake and she bounded alongside the leaders then ran clear, away by a length and three quarters at the post.

Royal Strata sat fourth, one out from the 800m, moved up to be second turning in then took over narrowly at the 200m but was not able to match the winner when passed.

Aconite was third last at the 500m, went wider turning in and finished quite well for third from pacemaker Snowchino who had a big lead at the 500m but was caught at the 200m, fading to fourth.
