Group 3 placed two starts back, Showbeel, at start seven, stole a winning break at the 300m to secure a nice win here.

She led early before dropping into the trail (third) approaching the 1200m. Opie Bosson held her there to the 600m then moved out soon after and turned in three wide.

She shot a length in front at the 300m, a further length at the 200m and the damage was done. She was in no danger to the line, clear by a comfortable length for her second win and maiden stakes win. Loire dropped away to settle worse than midfield at the 1200m.

Still midfield rounding into the straight she had to wait for room, pulled wide and finished very well, especially the last 100m, for a gallant second.

Jennifer Eccles sat last at the 1000m and second last turning for home. She went widest, kept up a strong run into second at the 100m but had to settle for third.

Belle Plaisir was in behind the leading group at the 400m and finished quite well for fourth.

Desert Gold Stakes (G3)

Age: 3yo Type: OPEN

The winner was Showbeel in this G3 mile for 3yo fillies only that saw the top three in the event on known ability fill the top three placings. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were second (four-off the inside and a neck from the leader), led (one-off the inside by a length), fourth (four-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), fourth (on the fence and length and a half from the leader), third (three-off the inside and a length from the leader), led (on the fence by two lengths), sixth (six-off the fence and four lengths from the leader), led (one-off the inside by two lengths), led (three-off the inside by half a length) and seventh (three-off the inside and four lengths from the leader). Showbeel led early then took a trial third on the inner before working off near the home turn and surging to the lead at the 300m and going on to win this by a length. It was her second win from seven starts and her first at Blacktype as she clocked 1:36.91 for the mile. She would race three more times as a filly and finish in the placings twice at G2 behind Jennifer Eccles and then miss out to that same filly once again when ninth at G1. Loire would run on very well for second from well back in this and she was fresh up since her G1 1000 Guineas win at 1600m on November 16 over Jennifer Eccles and Travelling Light. She too would have three more runs after this and ten starts in total as a 3yo filly, like the winner, and would place twice at G2 behind Jennifer Eccles and then run a poor fourteenth at G1 over 2400m in the G1 NZ Oaks behind the same filly. Jennifer Eccles coming into today was a one-win filly at G2 comfortably over Two Illicit and she would run on powerfully from the rear for third in this. She would not be beaten again after this capturing her next three starts including two events at G2 and then the G1 NZ Oaks at 2400m. Belle Plaisir fought on game for fourth and was beaten two lengths while the leader Queen Kamada finished fifth beaten almost four lengths after being headed at the 300m. The rest got beaten over five lengths and up to beyond thirty-three lengths with Trifolium a game sixth after being sixth and wide for most of the race and fighting on well all things factored in. This race would propel Jennifer Eccles into being the top of her sex as a 3yo filly as she would go undefeated after today in the three main events left for her sex namely two at G2 and one at G1. She would end up the top filly from Two Ilicit that would run second in the NZ Derby against the boys too then would be Loire, which won the G1 1000 Guineas in November and Travelling Light, which won a weakfish G1 at Trentham, before running a very distant second to Two Illicit. Jennifer Eccles in a season of far superior depth amongst the females was the shining light at the end of so many jewels.
