Freshened after two untypical Sydney starts in the spring for a close Listed second at Ellerslie on Boxing Day Avantage, a former Group 1-winning two-year-old, was tenacious in gaining her eighth win in 14 career starts.

From barrier 13, jockey Opie Bosson had her covered up in midfield soon after the start but at the crossing moved out for clear running. From the 400m she drove up to third, almost levelled up with the leader at the 200m, put her head in front at the 100m and after a brief tussle edged forward to score by a short-neck.

World traveller Enzo's Lad was brave. He was pushed out at the 800m but at the crossing went up and took over in front. At the 400m he went clear, went strongly to the 200m before being caught, gave the winner a good tussle but was outgunned for a valiant second.

The first two were clear of the rest. Spring Heat made a promising run from the 400m but ran into traffic, pulled wider when clear and finished well to take third.

Julius was a handy fourth at the 400m, got to third at the 150m but could not find any more to the line, while Winter Bride was knocked when making her challenge, recovered and ran on for fifth.

This G1 1200m at WFA saw the Australian bred 4yo mare Advantage capture the event by a short neck from the winner of the event for the last two years in the also an Australian bred Enzo's Lad. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were second (four-off the inside and a neck from the leader), led (one-off the inside by a length), fourth (four-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), fourth (on the fence and length and a half from the leader), third (three-off the inside and a length from the leader), led (on the fence by two lengths), sixth (six-off the fence and four lengths from the leader), led (one-off the inside by two lengths), led (three-off the inside by half a length) and seventh (three-off the inside and four lengths from the leader). Advantage with 2kg less than the runner up sat eighth wide with cover then surged up wider turning for home and reached second at the 300m The 4yo mare then reached the led with 100mn to travel and hung on grimly to record her eighth win from fourteen starts and post her second G1 success, which had come after a 2yo victory over 1400m. Advantage was second up today having prior run a close second at Listed level with 58.5kg (5.5kg more than the winner Pretty To Sea that would run a cracking fifth in the G1 Railway Handicap six days later). After today she would have three more runs, all coming at G1, for a solid finishing fourth behind stablemate Te Akau Shark and then two wins at WFA over a mile and 2000m. Enzo's Lad was going for a threepeat in this race having won in it 2018 by a short neck with 55.5kg at $74 drawn the ace and then winning it again by a nose with 58kg in 2019. He tried ever so hard again today after racing handy wide from gate seven and went down a short neck fighting all the way to the wire. Prior to his attempt at the hattrick the gelding had been obliterated in firstly Hong Kong at G1 and then at Royal Ascot twice at G1 and it showed the gap between real sprinters is quite vast. Spring Heat made it a complete sweep for Australian breds, when a distant third and she ran on well from eleventh on settling and was still sixth at the 200m but grabbed the third place comfortably with 100m to go. Julius ran an honest fourth beaten over four lengths after racing third the outer and he was the reigning G1 Railway Handicap winner from eighteen days prior. Winter Bride ran a fair fifth beaten just under five lengths after racing fourth the inner mostly and being seventh at the 200m. Endless Drama, which had run last of fourteen in the G1 Railway Handicap eighteen days prier came out and ran a solid sixth after drawing barrier one today. Evalina ran on well from third last and wide with cover at the 800m for seventh while Xpression fought on almost a length away in eighth place after racing second last on settling. The rest ran almost seven lengths and up to eleven and a half lengths away and all were somewhat disappointing especially the fourth favourite Sensei that beat one home and never got into the race at any stage. The winner Advantage was more dominant that her margin emphasised and proved it after this race too with a brace of G1 wins at WFA. Also it was notable that first three home, all Australian bred, did not contest the G1 Railway Handicap and the winner of that that Julius, would run a battling fourth beaten over four lengths in today's event.
