Ashton Turner knows he can help his cause for Twenty20 World Cup selection with a strong one-day series in India, beginning in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Ashton Turner will use this week's one-day series in India as a chance to push his claims for a home Twenty20 World Cup berth later this year.
Turner is expected to bat at No.5 for the Aussies in the series opener in Mumbai on Tuesday, with Marnus Labuschagne to debut at No.4.
Alex Carey could also move up the order to No.6, with Ashton Agar a likely option as a spinning allrounder at No.7 for the first of three matches.
A member of Australia's T20 squad last summer, Turner will likely be in a fight to keep his spot for the World Cup.
Glenn Maxwell would be expected to return to the T20 team, while Marcus Stoinis is the Big Bash League's leading run-scorer and Mitch Marsh also in form.
D'Arcy Short, Labuschagne and Peter Handscomb are also on the tour of India, and would all be aiming to press their claims for what will be just one or two spots in the top XI.
The Aussies have a year filled with white-ball cricket including three overseas tours, but Turner knows he can take his chance now even if it's in the 50-over format.
"As a batter our currency is runs," he said.
"Selectors watch us bat in all formats, first-class cricket, one-day cricket or T20 cricket.
"All we can do is put our best foot forward and try and contribute to winning teams.
"We always have an eye to the future and are thinking about things coming up, big and exciting things."
The 26-year-old arrives in India after one of the best series of his career in the country last year.
He hit 84 off just 43 balls in a narrow win last year to help turn Australia's fortunes, which catapulted him into 50-over World Cup contention before just missing out.
"For me to be able to play a role in getting that one-day series back on track ... that night in Mohali, I have fond memories," Turner said.
"I take a lot of confidence out of that against a world-class team and a world-class bowling attack, it's given me confidence that my ability is good enough."
