Brisbane to host Super Netball grand final

3 minute read

Brisbane will host the Super Netball grand final with all finals matches to be played there or on the Sunshine Coast.

The Super Netball grand final is locked in for Brisbane on Sunday, October 18, bringing to a close a unique finals schedule.

After hosting the bulk of the games in a condensed 2020 season, southeast Queensland, including the Sunshine Coast, will stage the finals series over a three week period.

With two rounds to play until finals, first versus second will square off in the major semi-final on Saturday, October 3 at USC Stadium, followed by third against fourth in the minor at the same venue the following day.

With no home advantage with all teams apart from Queensland based interstate, the loser of the major semi-final will choose their preferred preliminary final venue between Brisbane's Nissan Arena and USC.

That will be played on Sunday, October 11, with the grand final a week later.

Melbourne Vixens are the runaway competition leaders, followed by Sunshine Coast Lightning, West Coast Fever and defending champions NSW Swifts with only four points splitting those three teams.

Super Netball boss Chris Symington said they took advice from the teams in working out the timing of the finals.

"We have taken guidance from our clubs in spacing the finals matches over three weeks after the condensed home and away season to ensure all teams involved in finals have adequate time to recover and prepare," he said.

They are hopeful of boosting the current capacity at Nissan Arena beyond the 2000 fans.
