Australian Diamonds coach Stacey Marinkovich has welcomed the chance to boost the netball team's preparation for the Commonwealth Games with a trip to London in January to play the Quad Series.

The Diamonds will face England, New Zealand and South Africa in the four-nation competition.

The four sides will go head-to-head once, with a third and fourth place game and a final to decide the winner of the Netball Quad Series trophy.

The tournament is a welcome boost after England were forced to cancel a planned October tour of Australia due to the closure of the Trans-Tasman travel bubble - England were at the time in New Zealand having already quarantined there.

"I am incredibly excited to see how we transfer what we worked on during the recent performance camp to the international stage," said Marinkovich.

"This is a fantastic opportunity to test ourselves as we lead into an important year with the Commonwealth Games.

"This will give our athletes exposure to international travel, training and competition ahead of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, as well as the opportunity to adapt to international styles, tactics, and the on and off court environments."

The inaugural Netball Quad Series was played in 2016 and the Diamonds have won five of the six titles, including the last one two years ago.

Australia are the top-ranked team in the world, with New Zealand second, England third and South Africa fifth (Jamaica are fourth).

Australia's fixtures:

16 January v New Zealand (0315 AEDT)

17 January v South Africa (0100 AEDT)

19 January v England (0630 AEDT)

20 January: 3rd place play-off (0430 AEDT)

20 January: Final (0630 AEDT)
