NSW captain Boyd Cordner rates Wednesday's series-clinching win over Queensland as the best Origin match he's been part of and one that won't be forgotten.

Cordner's Sydney Roosters teammate James Tedesco scored a tie-breaking try with 32 seconds to go, as NSW clinched a 2-1 series victory with a dramatic 26-20 victory at Sydney ANZ Stadium.

It was 27-year-old second rower Cordner's 15th Origin game spread over seven series.

'That's the best I think, the way we won it was pretty amazing," Cordner told AAP.

He admitted the Blues made things harder for themselves, as they surrendered a 20-8 lead, with the resurgent Maroons piling on two converted tries in six minutes.

"Yes we did, we should have been better at closing out that game," Cordner said.

"But the way we finished won't be forgotten, it will go down as one of the great games."

Asked what qualities coach Brad Fittler had brought to the side over the last couple,of years that had contributed to them winning successive series for the first time since 2005, Cordner said "just putting the team before yourself.

"Being selfless and showing some pride and some heart in every game and everything we do."

He was delighted his long-time former teammate, halfback Mitchell Pearce, had finally been part of a series-winning Blues side at the eighth attempt.

"Stoked, over the moon for him, he really deserves it and he'll enjoy it too," Cordner said.

He said Tedesco was a well deserved player of the series and former Roosters teammate Blake Ferguson had been fantastic over the last two games.

Cordner will get more time to savour the success than a lot of his NSW teammates as he will be rested from the Roosters game against the Cowboys on Sunday.

"I'm going to soak it all up and celebrate for a couple of nights and maybe a couple of nights after that," Cordner quipped.

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
