After a troubled first NRL season at Brisbane, Brodie Croft believes working alongside a legendary Broncos halves pairing will get him back to his best.

They were the halves duo that made Brisbane an NRL powerhouse and Brodie Croft is using Kevin Walters and Allan Langer's knowledge to push his own game to the next level.

Croft's debut campaign for the Broncos was a forgettable one, with the youngster struggling to make an impact during the club's horror run that saw them stumble to a first wooden-spoon finish.

Images of the 23-year-old crying on the field after a loss to the Warriors summed up the club's woes as the once-mighty Broncos slumped to unprecedented lows.

It was as far as could be from when Walters and Langer steered the Broncos to multiple premierships during the 1990s.

With Walters now on board as the club's head coach and Langer working as an assistant, Croft says the legendary pair are proving an invaluable resource for a young half such as himself.

"It's pretty cool that we get to train alongside and be coached by Kev and Alfie who took this club to so many premierships as a halves combination," Croft said.

"They like to bounce ideas off each other and then we get to bounce ideas off each other as well.

"It's been great."

Croft says his game fell apart last year as he tried too hard to deliver in a team that was unravelling.

After an off-season where the birth of his first child has given him a whole new perspective, the ex-Melbourne Storm prospect is eager to produce a campaign in 2021 which made him such a coveted talent when he joined the Broncos on a three-year deal at the end of 2019.

"Obviously things weren't going great as a team and then myself individually I was trying to overplay my hand, trying to find things that weren't there," he said.

"That's why Kevvie's been good to simplify it, strip it right back and play to my strengths.

"I just want to get back to playing my best brand of footy. I know what I'm capable of."

Think. Is this a bet you really want to place?
