Matildas captain Sam Kerr believes the USA is the team to beat, while former skipper Kate Gill says Caitlin Foord is one to watch at the Women's World Cup.

"I would love to see France go as far as us to the final but you can't go past the USA and also Germany.

"My dark horse is Spain. I've watched them play the last few years and they this amazing style of football like Barcelona, the tiki-taka.

"I watched them play Canada last year and they played them off the park. They didn't touch the ball."

"I'm optimistic that Australia will get through to the next round and I think then it depends on who is their next opponent.

"France have put an absolute motza into their team and I've just loved it, the way that the French women play.

"It would be pretty historic if the French men and women could both be World Champs. It would be awesome."
