Muted celebrations for Bundesliga winner

3 minute read

Bayern Munich will not be allowed to hold a huge outdoor party on Munich's central Marienplatz if they win the Bundesliga title.

Bayern Munich will not be allowed to hold a huge outdoor party on Munich's central Marienplatz as they have done in previous years if they win the Bundesliga title.

"Bayern's annual championship celebration on Marienplatz is unfortunately unimaginable this year - not because of the record-holding team's lack of sporting success, but of course because of coronavirus-related limitations," city mayor Dieter Reiter told the Bild newspaper.

After defeating rivals Borussia Dortmund 1-0 on Tuesday, the Bavarian frontrunners are almost certain to win an eighth consecutive title.

Bayern Munich has a seven-point lead on second-placed Dortmund in the Bundesliga standings.

With six more games to go, the club said the title win had not yet been decided, and that there was no indication of how to celebrate another likely victory, according to Bild.
