Matildas midfielder Luik joins Sevilla

3 minute read

Almost all of the Matildas' regular squad members have now signed for European clubs, with Aivi Luik securing a move to Spanish club Sevilla FC Femenino.

Matildas veteran Aivi Luik has signed with Spanish club Sevilla FC Femenino on a one-year deal.

Luik joins defender Jenna McCormick (Real Betis) and young midfielder Alex Chidiac (Atletico Madrid) in Spain's Primera Division, which kicks off in September.

The 35-year-old played a key role in Melbourne City's W-League premiership-championship double.

"Sevilla gives me the opportunity to play again in one of the best leagues in the world," Luik told the club's website.

"Coming to Sevilla means the honour of playing for a club with a lot of history and it means playing with a team with the potential for a lot of success."

Luik has previously played in Spain for Levante and had stints in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Iceland.

Her move means Emily van Egmond and Alanna Kennedy are the only key Matildas yet to announce their plans.

The pair are expected to land in Europe like the majority of the national team's regulars.
