Leipzig win to remain top of Bundesliga

3 minute read

Unbeaten RB Leipzig remain top of the Bundesliga thanks to a 2-0 triumph at Augsburg, while Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Stuttgart and Leverkusen all win.

RB Leipzig's unbeaten start to the Bundesliga season goes on, with a world-class strike from Yussuf Poulsen helping the league-leaders to a 2-0 win at Augsburg.

Poulsen's 'goal of the season' contender - a fierce dipping volley over the Augsburg 'keeper Rafal Gikiewicz - doubled Leipzig's lead after Angelino had put them ahead on the stroke of half time.

Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski bagged two goals each as champions Bayern Munich outclassed promoted Arminia Bielefeld 4-1 in the Bundesliga.

Muller bundled home from close-range early on before Lewandowski struck twice by half-time to go top of the scoring chart on seven goals.

The prolific Pole showed he could also create by setting up Muller after the break for the fourth.

Japanese forward Ritsu Doan grabbed a consolation for Bielefeld on 58 minutes but Bayern easily saw out the win despite Corentin Tolisso's late red card.

The result leaves Bayern second in the league on nine points behind leaders Leipzig (10).

Borussia Dortmund had to rely on substitutes Marco Reus and Erling Haaland to end their barren run against Hoffenheim with a 1-0 victory.

Dortmund had not won any of the last five meetings between the sides, but Haaland ran on to a ball headed from midfield and kept his cool in front of Hoffenheim's goalkeeper before unselfishly crossing to give Reus a tap-in for the 76th-minute winner.

Wolfsburg made it four draws out of four this season thanks to a late strike from Wout Weghorst which earned them a share of the points at Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Freiburg and Werder Bremen drew 1-1, Hertha Berlin lost 2-0 at home to promoted Stuttgart, Bayer Leverkusen won at Mainz 1-0.
