After being the nine time leading trainer under the Crown Lodge set up, John Hawkes decided to train in a family partnership in 2008.
Joining with sons Michael and Wayne, the level of success has not stopped even with fewer horses.
Multiple Golden Slippers and Caulfield Guineas have been secured but it is hard not to think the remarkable sprinter Chautauqua is not the one who has delivered the greatest stable thrills – certainly since the days of Octagonal and Lonhro.
He took two big ones in Melbourne but his supersonic finishes to win three straight TJ Smiths brought Randwick to its knees.
