Race Synopsis:This G1 1000 Guineas for 3yo fillies over the mile attracted a decent field and the top three in the race on sheer ability bar one other formed the trifecta with Loire at $28 beating Jennifer Eccles and Travelling Light. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were seventh (two-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), third (on the fence and one and a half lengths from the leader), led (one-off the inside and a length in front), seventh (four-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), ninth (eight-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), fourth (seven-off the inside and one and a half lengths from the leader), eighth (seven-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), co-leader (three-off the inside), co-leader (three-off the inside), tenth, (three-off the inside and three lengths from the leader) and sixth (one-off the inside and three lengths from the leader). Loire was at massive overs to win due to her last start failure but she had a health issue and should never have been let go out at such odds. Fresh up this season she ran third at Listed level behind the top male 3yo Catalyst (best 3yo in all of New Zealand by miles) and that is form you cannot ignore. Today she drifted well back then came up eighth and the third widest runner turning for home before being detonated and producing a super surge to lead at the 100m. She then had to repel late the big finishing runner up Jennifer Eccles and did so by a long neck in 1:36.33, a time that bettered the Benchmark 72 time for the older horses in the last race of the day, by over four lengths. Loire was winning her second race in six starts and her first at Blacktype, which happened to be at G1, so her breeding value is assured already. Jennifer Eccles came from twelfth turning for home with a sustained big surge and she incredibly is still a maiden but that will never remain as her blossoming even further seems certain over Summer. Travelling Light took the lead and got away with some cheap sectionals so had every possible chance in reality. She sprinted the run home but could not quite sustain it and was overtaken the final 100m but she did fight well to be third beaten just under a length. Travelling Light was undefeated coming into today and started favourite. Bavella ran an honest fourth after settling down fifth the outer and then striding up into second at the 250m. Bella Mente was a decent fifth after settling back then turning for home ninth before coming through the final 200m. Kali ran second favourite and after bounding in the air at the start then copping a bump she settled second last the inner only to run home rather well from thirteenth and second widest runner turning for home to finish sixth. She along with the first three home are the class quartet of fillies this season so far. Karalina was a fair seventh beaten just over three and a half lengths but then the gap was substantial back to eighth and worse to be beaten over seven lengths and as far as over sixteen lengths. This was a strong G1 filly field and will stand the test of time not just this season but thereafter as too much proven talent met here along with a chock-a-block sorority of rising girl power. The first three home and Kali will all win a bounty of Blacktype races in the future and rack up stacks of individual successes. The filly 3yo depth overall looks much deeper than the males in New Zealand significantly this season as apart from Catalyst, the incredibly dominant by far of his age, the other males were solid but all had turns so to speak.
