Race Synopsis:This G1 for 3yo fillies saw Kahma Lass be more dominant than her three-quarters of a length win would indicate. The filly prior too today had won once and been runner up twice but there is an argument that she should now be four from four. The winners and where they came from on the home turn were twelfth (six-off the inside and four lengths from the leader), tenth (twelve-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), eleventh (eleven-off the inside and four lengths from the leader), tenth (six-off the inside and three and a half lengths from the leader), fourth (six-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), second (seven-off the inside and a head from the leader), tenth (five-off the inside and five lengths from the leader), eighth (six-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), fifth (seven-off the inside and length and a half from the leader), tenth (nine-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), sixth (six-off the inside and eight and a half lengths from the leader) and fourth (six-off the inside and two lengths from the leader). Not won one leader won all day and almost all of them came from well back such was the tired nature of the track come this the last day of three in a week. Kahma Lass got back on the inner early and then was crucially worked off across the top and got moved up turning for home in an ominous fashion. She reached third at the 300mn without being asked to let rip and surged soon after to lead at the 100m and she would clock 1:36.71. It was her first Blacktype success and it came at G1 and she looks a filly with a lot more to offer next year as she has it all ahead of her for sure. Second home was the South Island trained Miss Tycoon Rose that had won a maiden at her last start and was a $19 shot today. She got back on the inner then was angled wide across the top but still turned for home second last. Her finishing burst was impressive and from eighth at the 200m she flew home to get second money on the post. She is an Australian bred filly so has scope to keep improving and being able to settle closer in the running is manageable with better barriers. Cornflower Blue the second favourite led out then took a trail on the inner and drove through to lead at the 200m but was headed at the 100m. She fought on well to go down by under a length and lost second on the line. Tinker McPhee ran favourite and was fifth surrounded early then was in traffic midrace before coming through sixth turning in and she reached second closest in at the 300m. She led at the 200m but could hold out the stronger finishers in better footing but she never shirked her task and finished fourth beaten a fraction less than a length and three-quarters. Fifth home was Tokorangi that ran sixth favourite but was only paying $7.90 such was the betting conundrum of the race. After settling in the rear she worked off and turned for home tenth and ran on gamely closer in the final 100m. Vitesse Bo was wide and working early before getting up second the outer and she fought okay the run home to finish sixth beaten less than two and a half lengths. Her early exertion proved costly the closing stages. Bonham ran at the same price as the winner (equal third favourite) and after an awkward start she raced wide with cover before looming into fifth at the 200m. She never gave it away and was beaten a tad more than two and a half lengths. The gap then was big of a further four lengths back to the Kelly Renee in eighth place and she was beaten all up just under seven lengths. She ran on albeit in a gap from last on the home turn. Also running on bit in a gap was Fashion Shoot that raced well back and wide to the home turn. The rest never really got into the race or were in not good enough or were trapped wide. Matchmaker the fifth favourite settled back and wide and never flattered the run home. The best filly won this and Kahma Lass looks a dominant factor at the stage of the season This field had depth and in numbers too so there will be winners galore to come out of this race for the rest of this season at least. There were too many tidy fillies in this field not for it to rate highly and it should stack up time and time again.
