Race Form Analyst | Journalist
Sydney-born Simon Dinopoulos is the newest addition to the Racing and Sports form analyst team, joining the ranks in 2012.
He's had a long interest in racing and moved to the Nation's Capital in 2008 to attend the University Of Canberra, graduating with a Bachelor of Sports Media in 2011.
During his time at University, he worked at the Canberra Racing Club undertaking various roles included working as an assistant judge; a photo finish operator; and author of the club's weekly "Under The Whip" column, which featured in the Sunday Canberra Times.
At Racing and Sports Simon has quickly established himself as a respected member of the race form team, bringing a penchant for deep statistical analysis to the table. As a journalist he contributes stories for the R&S website, writes industry updates & trial reports.
As a race form analyst he specialises in West Australian and Singapore racing for the R&S form services. He is the self proclaimed “King of the West” and labels his Friday evening Singapore selections “The Singapore Steals”.
Simon travelled to Singapore to cover the 2014 International meeting for R&S, & says it's a racing center that should be on every punter's radar. The quality of racing in Singapore has improved dramatically. Rocket Man put Singapore on the map, but more stars are now coming through & are ready to step on to the global stage.
Simon relishes the collaborative work environment at R&S under acclaimed international handicapper Gary Crispe, one that encourages robust discussion about the relative race performance of individual horses. The R&S racing and breeding database has 100's of millions of pieces of horse racing data, form and ratings information. This greatly assists Simon's work.
Once a regular of the infamous Randwick betting ring, Simon's fondest racing memory dates back to the day when he was only one of a few people cheering Efficient home in the 2009 Turnbull Stakes - just 40 minutes prior to All Silent coming from the clouds to take out the Gilgai Stakes. The day was made even more memorable due to his father convincing him to take a double, earlier in the day.
Simon can be heard on Friday mornings on Sky Sports Radio - Racings HQ, discussing the weekend racing from a statistical perspective.
