Firstly a hectic finish with a three-way photo then two protests: third (Coliseo) against first past the post (Fabriano) which was upheld. But third (Coliseo) against second past the post (Niblick) was dismissed. The amended placings therefore saw Niblick become the winner with Coliseo second and Fabriano relegated behind that horse to third. Niblick raced outside the leader (Skystreamer) at a moderate pace on the Heavy8 track. The field all fanned wide looking for better going approaching the turn and Niblick straightening in front. He was headed nearing the post but came again gamely to finish third in a three-way photo but was subsequently awarded the race on protest. Coliseo ($4.20 favourite) was tenth in the 13-horse field before improving in the centre nearing the turn. He got a split shortly afterward and was running on nicely but was checked, then eased wide and ran on again, looking unlucky in finishing a close third (later protesting against the first pair past and being promoted to second). Fabriano was about seventh, got a good run through nearing the turn and challenged at the 200m then battled on well to be first past the post (by a nose) but was relegated to third, following a protest from Niblick (third past the post) who was awarded the race. Price Of Glory was about ninth at the 600m and kept running on quite well, before switching out very wide at the 300m, then finishing late for a close fourth. *ANZ
