The Jean Dubois-trained import Green Sweet put up a solid effort in winning here. Having his second run in Australia after an encouraging second in a Benchmark 83 (1900m) at Rosehill on 11 March, he settled nicely back in ninth place, behind a solid tempo before improving (wide) from the 600m. He challenged at the 200m and then fought too well, getting the upper hand nearing the post to win well. The favourite Cool Chap raced in eighth place, one off the rails. He made a good run from the 600m and he briefly looked the winner when he hit the front at the 200m before fighting well for second, being outstayed by the winner in the closing stages. Overdue settled in third last place in the 15-horse field, improved from the 800m, went widest of all nearing the home turn, got to third at the 100m and then battled on to hold that position, having no chance with the first pair.
