The Fred Kersley-trained Ihtsahymn is now a Group 2 winner after taking out the W.A Guineas at Ascot. Ihtsahymn did not show much pace from his good barrier (2) and was then shuffled back to be tenth, between runners. He was travelling well but was hemmed in rounding the home turn but got a split nearing the 200m point, where he was still six lengths from the leader. He then produced a great late burst, in the sprint home, to score by a length at the post. It was an impressive effort. The favourite Miss Rose De Lago ($3.40) worked across from her wide draw (12) and got to the lead nearing the 1200m. She then steadied the tempo before moving clear on straightening. She looked the winner in the straight and was only headed in the latter stages for a good second, beaten one length. Saint Bro, a winner at his first two starts, moved up from his outside barrier (15) and raced outside the leader (his stablemate Miss Rose De Lago) from the 1200m point until half way down the straight. He then battled on for a sound third, beaten just under two lengths. The Gai Waterhouse-trained Vitello ($4 second favourite) raced in seventh place on the rails, but was under riding approaching the home turn. He then just battled on in the straight to finish a disappointing 11th, beaten just under five lengths. *ANZ
