Good Project was smartly away from his wide barrier (11) and soon crossed to the lead. Craig Williams then steadied the midrace pace before picking up the tempo nearing the home turn. He grabbed a clear lead at the 200m and was not threatened from that point with his limit weight (53kg) to win in good style. Messene led in the early stages from his good barrier (1) before easing to travel in third spot on the rails. He got through to second on passing the 200m and battled well for a good second. Balmont Girl had a nice trip from barrier two racing in seventh place on the rails. She stuck to the inner on straightening, going to fourth at the 200m and fought on well to gain third in a photo. Black Heart Bart raced midfield, wide with cover, before improving (wide out) rounding the home turn. He then continued to finish well with his top weight (58kg), in the sprint home for a most creditable (2.6 lengths) fourth. Hazzabeel showed good pace from his wide barrier (13) and settled outside the leader and eventual winner. He held that spot to the home turn and fought well for (2.8 lengths) fifth. Favourite Delicacy settled in second last place in the 15-horse field, went very deep on turning for home and ran on particularly well, in the sprint home for a good (3.3 lengths) sixth in difficult circumstances. Her stablemate Real Love was also well back, wide with cover. She went deep (under riding) on straightening and kept making ground for (3.4 lengths) seventh, in a sound effort.
