The Kingston Town Classic (Gr 1, 1800m) winner Perfect Reflection put up a smart effort in taking out this Group Two race at her second run this preparation. She was slow to move and settled in last place in the eight-horse field, following a solid tempo (set by the keenly going leader Pornichet). She improved between runners at the home turn, switched out nearing the 200m and the finished well to score quite impressively. Disposition was back in fifth place (on the rails), moved up on straightening, took the lead at the 200m and fought well for second, just finding the winner too strong in the latter stages. Tradesman was back in sixth place, one off the rails. He went deep at the home turn and ran on really well for a good third. The five-time New Zealand Group One winner Kawi, who was having his first start outside of his home country in 28 starts, raced in second place, behind a solid pace, kept battling on over the closing stages for (3.3 lengths) fourth.
