After showing promise when trained in NSW by Paul Messara, Rock Magic continues to build a good record in WA, now winning five of his ten starts in that state. He settled in seventh place, following a good pace, before fanning deep rounding the home turn. He moved up strongly at the 200m, challenged at the 100m and finished too well to score nicely. Smart three-year-old Rebel King raced outside the leader (Benito), went to the front at the 200m and then battled gamely for a good second, just finding the winner (whom conceded him 3.5 kg) too strong. Mad Brad raced back in eighth place on the rails. He got a split at the 200m and came with a late run to finish a good third.
