Mark Newnham-trained three-year-old gelding Final Award staged a good effort in winning here, his second win from four starts to date. He was ridden quietly and remained at the tail of the 11-horse field until switched deep on straightening. He then ran on strongly hit the front at the 100m and went on to win well. Godolphin-raced filly Ladurnum settled back in ninth place, went deep on turning for home, challenged nearing the 100m and then fought well for a good second. Major Wager was smartly away from the outside barrier (11) and went to the front. She then travelled well, got a break on turning for home but was headed at the 200m and she then held on to take the minor placing. The favourite Yulong January raced outside the leader but was under pressure at the 200m and then battled on to finish (5.6 lengths) sixth.
