The David Payne-trained filly Artistic Lass broke through for her first win in 13 starts, scoring here over 1900m by just over six lengths. She was ridden patiently and settled last in the small five-horse field. She made her bid nearing the home turn, moving up quickly (wide), took the lead on turning for home then raced right away with the benefit of her light weight (51kg) for an easy win. She looks the makings of a handy spring filly. The Peter Moody-trained Mutajara (59kg) raced outside the leader, went to the front coming the turn and battled on quite well, considering the big weight difference to the winner, to finish second. *ANZ
