The Peter Snowden-trained four-year-old fringed went to the lead and set a moderate tempo in the small field of six. He picked up the pace nearing the home turn and continued to cling to a narrow lead in the straight to score by the narrowest of margins. The favourite Darciwood raced outside the leader and eventual winner before moving up strongly to challenge half-way down the straight. He looked the winner at that stage but could not get past the leader, battling on for a close second in the sprint home (last 600m 34.79). The winner’s stablemate, Petrify, was third on the rails and got a late split between runners at the 100 metres and was an unlucky late-closing third. *ANZ
