Hero I Am was ridden quietly and settled in last place in the small six-horse field. He got a rails run nearing the home turn, got a split at the 200m to take the lead and then fought gamely for a to win by a short head. Monteux travelled nicely in fourth place on the rails before easing across heels to be third rounding the home turn. He then took a little while to wind-up but challenged at the 100m and battled on quite well for a close second. Himpapawid was outside the leader early on then eased to race in a nice spot, third with cover. However he was under pressure approaching the home turn and just kept battling on from that point, a bit one-paced, to finish third in a slightly disappointing performance. *ANZ
