Gerald Ryan-trained colt Tango Rain put up a smart effort in winning here on debut. He showed good pace from barrier eight and worked in the early stages before he crossed to take the lead. He then settled really well, got a break on straightening and scored a very good win in a promising debut. Golden Organic, a gelding from the Anthony Cummings stable, was slow to move and settled in second last place in the nine-horse field, before improving along the rails to be sixth nearing the home turn where he hung out and ran a bit deep. He then came with a good finish to take a promising second also on debut. Fanning led in the early stages before easing to race behind the leader. He was in clear running from the 200m and held on to take the minor placing. The shortpriced favourite, the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Niccolance, settled in fifth place on the rails and improved between runners coming to the home turn. He appeared to have every chance before finishing (2.5 lengths) fourth at his first run since finishing fourth in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) at the Gold Coast on 9 January.
