The Chris Waller-trained colt Kaonic looks a promising young stayer following his late-closing third in a three-year-old maiden (1400m) at Warwick Farm on 20 September with a very good win, advancing to 1550m here. He settled nicely in fifth place on the rails in the sevenhorse field but was under riding from the 700m when the pace picked up noticeably with the leader Delos grabbing a big break. Kaonic got to a distant second at the 200m but then finished far too well and scored comfortably at the post with Delos holding on for second after running a bold race.
