A pair of Chris Waller-trained fillies, racing on debut, fought out the finish with Ms Rodart scoring a narrow but promising win. She began well from her good barrier (2) and retained the lead despite some early pressure, grabbed a break on straightening and hand enough in hand to score by a short head in a good effort at her first race start. Her stablemate Press Box raced in third place, between runners, moved up nearing the home turn, went to second at the 200m and continued to make good ground in the closing stages for second also in a promising debut. Richard Freedman-trained Bondi Boy missed the start, was near last early on before recovering along the inner to be fifth on the rails. He went through to second on straightening and then held on to take the minor placing in a sound debut.
