Kuroshio began quickly from barrier five and looked certain to lead before horses drawn inside him (Marseille Roulette & The Bowler) drove though to keep him trapped three wide. He then started to race keenly, Kerrin McEvoy balanced him nearing the turn and the colt came back well to challenge at the 200m then fight on to win by a neck at the post. First starter The Bowler was urged from his good barrier (one) and he came though to take the early lead. He grabbed a break at the 400m and battled gamely, failing by only a neck at the post in an impressive debut performance. Dissident got a nice run in sixth place one off the rails before tracking up behind the winner from the 600m. He came out to challenge at the 200m and battled on for a close third, after seeming to have every chance. Fast ‘N’ Rocking was near last in the seven-horse field. He had trouble pushing out at the 200m then fought on nicely in the centre for fourth. It was encouraging effort. *ANZ
