Darley’s classy filly Guelph began quickly today, then eased to get a good trip fourth one out and one back in a reasonable early tempo. She improved three wide at the turn, put in a determined challenge at the 200m before drawing clear in the final stages for an impressive length and half win at the line, laying strong claims for Saturday week’s Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m). The winner’s stablemate Montsegur led and grabbed a nice break on turning for home. She fought gamely to the 100m but found the winner too in the closing stages to run a good second. Stratum filly Godiva Rock, who was making her debut in strong company, travelled nicely in fifth place on the rails. She was held up for a run before getting clear at the 200m and finished on well for a very good third. It was a most promising effort. Quest For Peace was sixth one off the rails to the turn. She fanned wide on straightening, moved to third at the 200m then battled on nicely for fourth. *ANZ
