The David Hayes-trained Pago Rock travelled well in fourth place on the rails before improving to second on straightening. He had quite a battle to catch the leader, but came with a strong run at the 50m to win nicely by a length. The speedy filly Elite Elle led, going at a reasonable pace, and grabbed a break rounding the home turn. She held a two lengths lead at the 200m and was only caught in the latter stages for a bold second. Second Effort was second last on the rails in the nine-horse field to the turn, where he was giving the leader about eight lengths. He stuck to the rails and made up a lot of ground for an impressive first-up third. The ten-year-old Stanzout was sixth on the rails to the turn and battled on surprising well for fourth while Skytrain came from was seventh at the 400m to make ground late for fifth. Three-year-old colt Happy Galaxy ($3.75 fav) was fifth one of the rails to the 600m but only battled from that point appearing to having difficulty in handling the Dead 5 conditions, racing below his best to finish sixth. The Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) winner Mrs Onassis ($5.50) was a handy third to the 600m, moved up three wide nearing the turn but struggled on straightening and was a disappointing eighth. The well supported Zamorar ($5) settled at the tail of the field, went wide on turning for home but failed to pass a runner in the straight to finish last, beaten just over eight lengths. *ANZ
