The lightly raced five-year-old Unpretentious, who was having his first start in almost 12 months, was slow to move from his inside barrier (1) and settled near the edge of the eight-horse field. Damien Oliver saved ground along the rails, getting to fifth at the 600m. He switched around heels passing the 300m, challenged strongly at the 150m and came again in the closing stages for a gutsy head win at the post. Pago Rock settled in back in fifth place, travelling well behind a solid pace. He fanned wide on straightening and looked the winner when he grabbed a narrow lead at the 100m but found the winner a little too strong, fighting on for a head second. The favourite Kuroshio began quickly from his outside barrier (8) but could not cross the speedy Snitzem and he raced outside that horse to the turn. He got to the lead at the 200m but then weakened to finish third, his early efforts telling in the closing stages. Snitzem led to the turn but then dropped out to finish last. *ANZ
