Australia’s best three-year-old filly Guelph ran out a comfortable winner, notching her fourth Group One success. She began well and with no serious challengers for the lead, Kerrin McEvoy had no hesitation in taking her to the front. She then set a moderate tempo [first 1000m 61.95] before picking up the pace from the 600m and drawing clear passing the 100m to win comfortably by almost two lengths. She is clearly a top class filly. May’s Dream raced in fourth place, one out and one back, before moving up three wide nearing the home turn. She put in a good run to challenge strongly at the 200m. She found Guelph too classy from that point but fought on nicely for an impressive second, enhancing her prospects for the VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m). Gregers enjoyed a good trip behind the leader to the turn and was in clear running passing the 200m. She then held on quite well to take the minor placing, just over four lengths behind the winner, putting up another honest performance. The lightly raced wordplay was sixth, one off the rails but was held up between runners from the 600m point. She got clear half-way down the straight and battled on well for a sound fourth. Bound For Earth was second last in the nine-horse field to the 600m, fanned wide at the turn and held on fairly well in the sprint home for fifth, beaten six and three quarter lengths. *ANZ
