The well performed NZ mare Zonza has now raced 13 times for five wins. Having her first start in Australia this preparation, she worked up wide early to settle outside the leader, travelling comfortably despite the moderate pace [first 1000m 62.89]. She took the lead at the 200m and went on to score a strong win by just over a length, looking likely to add further successes in mares’ events over the carnival. Bonaria had a good run, fifth one off the rails, before moving up three wide passing the 600m. She put in a quick run passing the 200m and then fought on nicely for a very good second.
