Lankan Rupee went through from his good barrier (4) to get a good trip fourth on the rails, following a smart pace (first 600m 34.38). He improved to second nearing the home turn, Craig Newitt continued to steer him along the rails from the 300m and they raced away in the latter stages for an impressive win, scoring by just over two lengths in smart time (1:09.70). Hot Snitzel was trapped deep from his barrier (9) and raced in about fourth spot (three wide) to the turn. He fanned wide at the bend, got to third at the 200m and battled on well for a good second. Famous Seamus was seventh on the rails, got an inside run on straightening and kept battling on in the straight for a sound third. The favourite Platelet ($3.50) was back about eighth to the 600m, but she failed to run on in the straight and finishing a disappointing eleventh. *ANZ
