Afleet Esprit began well from her inside barrier (1) and enjoyed a good trip fourth on the rails, following a steady early tempo (first 800m 49.60). She got a split at the 250m, hit the lead at the 100m and fought on nicely to win by half a length after a perfect trip. Amicus was midfield early on and trapped wide so Jim Cassidy went forward to race outside the leader at the 800m. She challenged strongly at the 200m and then fought gamely for a good (half length) second after working most of the race, putting up a good effort. Go Indy Go was last in the nine-horse field to the home turn. She went to the extreme outside at the 300m and then ran on well for a good third, looking on track for the major fillies’ races over longer distances. Traveston Girl went to the front, steadied the early pace and led the field to the 200m before finishing (1.3 lengths) fourth. Sabatini was seventh on the rails before getting through to fifth at the 300m. She then battled on quite well for (1.7 lengths) fifth. Pickin’ Time was just past midfield, three deep with cover, went wider turning for home and fought on quite well for a sound sixth, beaten two lengths. The favourite Bring Me The Maid settled in eighth place, between runners, was under riding rounding the home turn, fanned wider on straightening but ran on only fairly well in the sprint home for (3.9 lengths) seventh, racing below her best form.
