Stratum Star began well from his good barrier (2) and settled nicely in third place on the rails. He got a split to challenge rounding the home turn, hit the front at the 300m and went on to win decisively with his top weight (59kg) after enjoying a perfect trip. Awesome Rock was fourth, one out and one back, challenged coming to the home turn, went to second at the 200m and battled gamely for a good second, finding the winner (whom conceded him 5kg) too good. Leebaz went to the front, set quite a good tempo and held on well in the straight to just hold third. Sadler’s Lake was sixth one of the rails, moved up (deep) nearing the home turn and then kept battling on quite well for (2.5 lengths) fourth. Velox was back in second last place in the ten-horse field and made good late ground for (3.3 lengths) fifth. Of the others Dibayani (ninth) ran off at the home turn, losing all chance and Fenway (last) dropped out suddenly from second at the 600m in an effort which clearly suggested that something was amiss with the mare.
