Black Heart Bart jumped well from barrier seven and settled midfield keeping the leaders in sight. Down the side he drifted slightly to be midfield, three wide and continued to lose ground by the 600m where he was still wide and giving the leaders seven or eight lengths. On the last corner he accelerated equal widest but by the 300m he began to gather them in. At the 200m nothing else was going better but was still a couple of lengths in arrears. At the hundred the margin was a diminishing length but by the 50m he was going too strongly and drove out to win well and convincingly. Charmed Harmony led around the bend and on the last corner, surged clear by a couple of lengths then waited for the challenges. Working strongly along the fence he had them in trouble until the winner eventually got past inside the 50m but fought well to hold second. Eclair Choice had the run of the race in fourth around the bend and into the straight, tracking Charmed Harmony. A beautiful split was presented at the 300m but he could not go with the leader, battling fairly to the line for third.
