Champion mare Winx continued her seemingly invincible run, taking out her 12th successive victory, yet again in most impressive fashion. She settled well in second place, behind a moderate pace (first 1400m 1:29.67) before putting some pressure on the leader (Black Heart Bart) on passing the 600m. She easily took the lead at the 200m and then dashed clear to win easily looking primed for her second Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) in a fortnight’s time. Black Heart Bart went to the front, set a reasonable pace in the small three-horse field, responded well when challenged to hold on for a good second, although outclassed by the brilliant winner. He Or She was third and last all the way and held the minor place, six lengths from the winner at the post.
