The three-year-old filly Sookie began quickly and raced behind the leader (Bound To Blush) before challenging that runner strongly at the 200m point. She took the lead at the 50m and drew away to win well by three quarters of a length. Bound To Blush was smartly away from her outside barrier (16) and came across quickly to lead. She still held a nice advantage at the 200m but could not hold off the winner in the latter stages, her work in the early stages taking its toll. The mare Diademe raced in fifth place on the rails to the turn before getting a split on straightening, improving to third at the 100m. She then fought on to hold the minor placing, just under four lengths from the winner. The favourite Arinosa ($2.05) was ridden patiently as usual settling about eighth between runners. However she was under pressure from the 600m as the tempo increased and then fanned very wide on the home bend. She continued to make ground in the straight for fourth (beaten four and half lengths) without looking a winning chance. *ANZ
