Epaulette was a distant tenth on the rails following a fast pace most of the way to the 600m. He looked for a run in the centre on straightening and got through to a distant fifth at the 200m. He then continued to run on gamely, being favoured by the strong early tempo, and drew clear to win well by two lengths. Sea Siren was fifth one off the rails and moved up nicely (three wide) at the 600m, getting to third at the 200m and then fought on gamely for a very good second. Buffering began quickly from his wide barrier (12) and went to the lead but was pressured by Your Song which resulted in a hectic early pace. He was only headed after passing the 100m and did exceptionally well to hold on for third. Spirit Of Boom was just past midfield, moved up very wide nearing the home turn and made good ground for fourth. Better Than Ready was seventh on the rails most of the way to the turn and kept running on well for fifth, putting up another honest performance. The favourite your Song ($3.30) showed terrific pace from his outside barrier (15) and raced outside the leader (Buffering) to the 200m, only tiring from that point to finish sixth (beaten four lengths) after a torrid trip. *ANZ
