Single Gaze and Kathy O’Hara successfully combined again to take out this Group Two race. After settling well outside the leader (Preferment), at a very moderate early tempo that only increased at the 800m, Single Gaze got the upper hand and took the lead on straightening. She looked in danger (when Cylinder Beach) challenged at the 200m but then gained a clear lead when that horse broke down and she then went on to score a very good win, her fifth in 21 starts. Rudy raced in last place in the five-horse field to the home turn and ran on well for second without looking likely to trouble the winner. High Church travelled well in third place to the home turn and battled on well in the sprint home to take the minor placing while Preferment was next (beaten 5.5 lengths), weakening after leading to the home turn.
