The favourite Outback Barbie staged a smart first-up effort in winning here. She was ridden hard in the early stages, chasing a quick tempo, to settle in fifth place (between runners). Jim Byrne got her into clear running in third on turning for home and she then finished determinedly for a game win in quick time (1:08.86). Jami Lady showed good pace from her wide barrier (12) and soon crossed to the front. She then set a good pace, got a break on turning for home and was only overhauled in the latter stages for a very good second. Churning raced back in eighth place, was wide at the home turn and then made good late ground for a promising third, advancing in class here after her first-up win in a three-year-old fillies' maiden (1000m) at Sunshine Coast on November 18.
