In a surprise result Bergerac took out his first stakes success in 22 starts in winning here at odds of $31. Having his third run this preparation, he settled in fourth place on the rails from his inside barrier (1), got a split to challenge on straightening, took the lead at the 100m and then battled on to win well. Honey Toast settled at the tail of the field from his outside barrier (14). Jeff Lloyd steered him close to the inner coming to the home turn, took a split at the 200m and then ran on nicely for second. Bluebrook raced in sixth place on the rails, got clear at the 200m and finished on nicely for third. The favourite Gaulois did not show much early pace and settled back in 11th place before edging closer (wide). He fanned deep on straightening and then made ground to finish (1.6 lengths) fourth.
