The Sunshine Coast-trained Vo Heart raced three wide without cover outside the leaders (She’s A Danica and Goth Girl) in heavy rain. He drew clear at the 300m then fought back, lasting to score well by a half neck. The New Zealand colt Vilanova, having his first start for the Chris Waller stable, was about ninth on the rails to the 600m, got a split at the 300m and moving third at the 200m. He continued to fight on well, getting to within a long neck of the winner at the post in an encouraging Australian debut. Global Dream was about seventh between runners at the 600m, then moved up wide at the turn. He improved to fourth at the 200m and battled on nicely for a sound third. The favourite Hooked dipped at the start and was last in the 12-horse field to the turn. He went to the rails passing the 300m and made up good ground for an unlucky fourth. Bound For Earth was eased from her outside barrier (12) and was second last to the turn. She fanned wide on straightening and made up good ground for a late-closing fifth, putting up a strong effort at only her second career start. *ANZ
