Hawkspur ($4 equal favourite) was a little slowly away and was ridden hard early before recovering to settle sixth one off the rails, following a solid pace. He was under riding at the 600m and drove through in the centre, moving to second at the turn. He took the lead at the 300m and dashed clear at the 200m, winning by almost three lengths in a strong staying performance. Electric Fusion was third last in the 18-horse field to the 800m. He improved from the 600m and switched back to the rails at the 300m. He kept running on well to just take second at the post, putting up a very encouraging effort. Honorius was midfield before moving up wide with cover from the 700m. He switched to the rails at the turn and got through to third at the 300m. He then kept fighting on well to take the minor placing. Rhythm To Spare raced just past midfield and improved wide with cover from the 800m. He got a split at the turn and went to fourth at the 300m. He then kept fighting on well to hold fourth placing, beaten just under four lengths. Gondokoro was well back, being in front of only three horses at the 800m. She was about ten lengths from the leader at the 600m and went wide from that point. She kept making ground in the straight, without looking a winning chance, for a sound fifth, beaten four and half lengths. Survived (the other $4 equal favourite) settled past midfield and made a quick run, very wide, from the 1000m. He was trapped off the course from that point, made the home turn (wide out) and then tired after a hard run for eighth, beaten 12 lengths. *ANZ
