A bunched finish to the Guineas with the first eight horses finishing within a length and a half. The winner Sir Moments had a good trip about eighth on the rails following a solid tempo (first 800m 46.77). He was travelling well but was blocked on straightening. He got through at the 200m then got a late split at the 100m (when still four lengths from the leader) but he flashed up late to grab an impressive last-stride win. Liberty’s Choice was a handy fourth, between runners, put in a run at the 300m, took a narrow lead at the 50m, only to be caught on the post for second. Ryker came across from his wide barrier (14) and worked before taking the lead at the 1000m. He kicked clear at the 300m and fought back well after his early efforts for a close third, putting up a game effort. Olympic Anthem was seventh on the rails to the turn. He saved ground along the rails at the 200m and kept fighting on for a close-up fourth. Jazz Song was eighth between runners and was held up until she eased wide nearing the 200m. She then came with a solid late bid to finish a close fifth. Safeguard travelled nicely in fourth place, moved up well coming to the home turn and kept fighting on for (1.2 lengths) sixth. Palmera Lad came from last in the 18-horse field at the turn for (1.4 lengths) seventh, running on well wide out. The favourite Dothraki was fourth on the rails, got a split at the 200m and had every chance before finishing (1.5 lengths) eighth while the NZ filly Costa Viva was past midfield and wide all the way from her difficult barrier (16) before making ground for (2 lengths) ninth. *ANZ
